Fiber-opticSpools
Disposable amphibious fiber-optic spool for aerial and underwater applications
The RBOB-HAUV fiber-optic spool is ideal for remotely controlling unmanned aerial vehicles (UGVs) that have to operate in conditions that are difficult to access and where communication is complex due to strong electromagnetic interference. This spool is directly mounted on your amphibious vehicle, capable of operating in the air, but also underwater.
KeyFeatures
- Bidirectional link,
- Lengths of 500 m, 1 km, 2 km, 5 km and 10 km (even more on request),
- Secured and fast deployment,
- Compact and lightweight,
- 1310-1550 nm SM fiber,
- ST connector,
- Custom configurations.
SEDI-ATI’s experience in the field of fiber optic links for both unmanned aerial and underwater vehicles has enabled it to design and manufacture the innovative RBOB-HAUV, a disposable fiber optic spool for amphibious vehicles.
Ultra-compact and lightweight, it is mounted directly on the drone. It is designed for missions of up to 10 km deployment at high speed, both in the air and in deep water! It has been tested at 150 km/h in the air & 20 knots underwater.
The RBOB-HAUV is particularly well suited to guiding an amphibious drone, and to transmitting huge data streams in real time from on-board high-resolution cameras and sensors.
In addition, it is insensitive to EMI, making it immune to radio jamming.
Maneuvering in and out of the water, in circles, or even around obstacles is not a problem. Fiber optics are never a “leash” on the drone, and ensure permanent, real-time communication between the drone and the control station.
This concept has the potential for many civilian applications. Indeed, it could be used to explore and collect data in difficult-toaccess underwater environments. Its ability to cover vast areas quickly is also a major asset for search and rescue missions.
Note: both the HAUV and the control station need to be equipped with an opto-electronic device.
